Creating community among apartment residents

Rebecca McLean knows the importance of creating community face to face. She encourages apartment management companies to develop a community bond by getting to know their residents and encouraging them to interact with each other. Management companies are encouraged to provide recreational areas and community facilities to help bring people together. Apartments that enjoy a true sense of community often have more stable tenancies and lower crime problems than comparable communities that are not organized. Rebecca is Assistant Vice President of the Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Apartment Association.

If you live in an apartment or condo community, you could become the catalyst for bringing people together by volunteering to organize parties and other fun events. Check with your property manager or association president for ideas on how you can help create community where you live. How could you use social networking technology to foster community building?
